What I collect

Your email address, and only because you typed it in yourself.

Along with it I store the date you agreed to this policy, and which language you were reading in, so I can write to you in that language.

I also record, each time you sign up, confirm or unsubscribe, the IP address the request came from and which browser you used.

That last part is there for two reasons, and no others: so I can show you really did agree to be on this list if you ever ask, and so I can see it when someone tries to sign up addresses that are not theirs.

That is the whole list. There is no analytics, no advertising, and no third-party trackers on this site. I do not use any of this to follow you around the web, and I do not know what you read here.

Why I collect it

To send you the newsletter. That is the only reason.

I will not sell your address, rent it, trade it, or hand it to anyone for their own use. If that ever changes I will ask you first — not announce it afterwards.

How you get on the list

You type your address, then click a link in an email I send to it. The subscription does not start until you click that link.

That second step is deliberate. It means nobody can sign you up using your address, because only whoever can open your inbox can finish it.

How you get off it

Every email I send has an unsubscribe link. One click, no questions, no "are you sure". It takes effect immediately.

That link never expires. An email from three years ago will still work.

If you unsubscribe I keep a record that you did, and nothing else about you is used again. I keep that record so you do not get added back by accident.

Seeing or deleting your data

Write to hola@francocatena.com and you can ask me to:

• tell you what I hold about you,
• correct it,
• delete it completely.

I will do it, free, and I will not treat you any differently for asking. California residents have these rights by law; I extend them to everyone because keeping two sets of rules would be silly.

Who else touches it

Two kinds of company, and only so the site works:

• the service that actually delivers the email,
• the service that hosts the site and its database.

They handle your address on my behalf and are not allowed to use it for anything of their own. I do not give it to anyone else, except if I am ever legally required to — and I would tell you unless I were forbidden from doing so.

How long I keep it

Until you unsubscribe or ask me to delete it. I am not holding your address for some future purpose.

The IP and browser records go when you do — deleting you deletes them too, in the same moment.

Keeping it safe

The site is served over an encrypted connection, and the confirmation and unsubscribe links are stored hashed — so even someone who read the database could not use them to act as you.

No one can promise perfect security. If something goes wrong that affects you, I will tell you.

Children

This site is not aimed at children under 13, and I do not knowingly collect anything from them. If you think a child has subscribed, write to me and I will remove it.

Changes

If I change this page, the date at the top changes. If the change actually affects you, I will say so in the newsletter rather than hoping you re-read this.
